Why are only Pepperl+Fuchs instruments in the Device Tree?
This product was designed originally by Pepperl+Fuchs to help you develop your fieldbus projects. Additional device libraries can be downloaded and easily installed. Segment Checker is an open platform, therefore other devices can be added quite easily. We encourage you to add instruments through the use of the included Device Editor software. See also Import and Export functions.

How can I put my own instruments into the Device Tree?
Your own instruments can quickly be created and added to the Device Tree through the use of the Device Editor software. This editor feature is included with Segment Checker. Please for an explanation on its use.

What is the reason for "Not Specified","Non-hazardous","Zone1/Div1 EExia". in the select segment type?
This allows you to specify the conditions in which you are installing your fieldbus segment. Segment Checker then uses this information to populate the Device Tree with the appropriate equipment. Pepperl+Fuchs suggests for most applications that "Not specified" be used, this allows for all fieldbus equipment to appear in the Device Tree.

Why are some instruments missing from the Device Tree when you have selected a particular option for the segment type (i.e. Zone 1/ Div1 EExi)?
This is because Pepperl+Fuchs has made a most concerted effort to provide only those instruments, which are suitable to be used in a particular application. If you are unsure about the intended use of a particular instrument, please feel free to conact Pepperl+Fuchs through and we will gladly review the design with you.

What is short circuit checking?
The short circuit test is only possible when you select short circuit limited "junction boxes" (e.g. segment protector or fieldbarrier). It tests the worst case example. This means it tests one short circuit on an output where the segment gets the worst effect from a short circuit.

Where can I get a detailed specification of my project?
You will find an analysis of your project by clicking on the Project Report Tab located at the bottom of your drawing.

What does a module highlighted in red mean?
This indicates that the segment checker software has detected an error in your design. The error is related to the equipment highlighted in red. View the Error log tab located in the bottom left hand corner, or right click on the instrument and select "view error log" from the menu options.

What is Default Field Device Current?
The default current is the current automatically set for all generic devices introduced into the fieldbus circuit.

How do I get an instrument from the Device Tree into my project layout?
An instrument can be moved from the device tree into your project by double clicking or dragging and dropping the selected instrument. Please be aware that you will need to connect elements when using the double click method. This is accomplished by moving an element very close to the intended interconnecting element. The software will then make the connection automatically.

What is the difference in the Icon and Bitmap within the Device Editor?
The Icon is the image associated with the created instrument that will appear under your Device Tree. The Bitmap is the image displayed in a project once it is connected to an interface product.

What are the import and export functions within the Device Editor?
The import function allows you to incorporate "other" produced field device instruments. The export function allows you to save created field devices and share them with other people, or transfer to another computer.
